Escape the Tranquility for a Day of ACTION

If the peace and tranquillity of the Hunter Valley are too much to bear for a whole weekend (said no-one ever!) then perhaps a day-trip to the bustling shores of Newcastle are in order. And if it’s action and noise you’re after, then there’s no better weekend to make the 40-minute drive than on the weekend of 23–24 November for the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 Supercars event.

This year’s upcoming Coates Hire Newcastle 500 promises to be one of the most exciting on track with all 24 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship drivers vowing to put their best foot forward in a bid to stand atop the podium and look out over Wharf Road.

Drivers to look out for include superstars Scott McLaughlan, Jamie Whincup, David Reynolds Shane van Ginsberg and fan-fave Simona De Silvestro.

McLaughlin is undoubtedly at the top of his game right now. The Shell Ford Mustang driver claimed last year’s Championship on the streets of Newcastle in emphatic style on the Sunday, after running out of fuel in the opening race of the event.

In 2017, Simona De Silvestro showed the world that she was the real deal on the streets of Newcastle, with some of the best passing moves seen in Supercars. A favourite on and off the track with young fans, everyone will be cheering, hoping Newcastle is the event the Swiss superstar finally gets a Supercars race win in her Harvey Norman Nissan Altima.

It’s not just the Supercars that will be on show, there’s also a host of activities in and around Newcastle, including a once-in-a-lifetime concert at No.1 Sportsground on Saturday, November 23, which will see global superstars KISS and hometown heroes Screaming Jets take to the stage for a truly epic live performance.

Civic Park will also play host to the free Superkids Pitstop on the Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, where children can speed down the monster truck slide, navigate their way through a fun obstacle course and take part in circus workshops, while the smallest members of the family can enjoy the dedicated under-6s zone. Family members of all ages can also join in the fun by rolling the dice on an oversized version of Newcastle’s own Monopoly board.

Head further east from the park, and you’ll find an avalanche of activities on offer in the Hunter Street Mall from 10am to 2pm all weekend. For tickets and information visit www.supercars.com.au
