Community urged to continue to be responsible and social distance

Cessnock City Council is urging residents and local businesses to ensure they are doing the right thing when it comes to stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Our region continues to fair well and is recovering from the COVID-19 Pandemic, however the developments this week in Victoria remind us how quickly transmission can occur.

It’s been positive to see our businesses reopen their doors and trade again, particularly seeing our community getting involved in the Support Local Campaign.

Council’s General Manager, Lotta Jackson is encouraging everyone in the community to ensure they are following government restrictions and advice.

“We must not be complacent. Social distancing, hand washing and staying at home when you’re sick are all very important steps each individual can take that will make a real difference and save lives.”

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent agreed, saying it’s important, particularly for our most vulnerable residents.

“We don’t want to see a situation in our community where we are forced to go back into a lockdown. Let’s all continue to do our bit every day to protect our more at risk residents and to ensure our businesses can continue to operate.”

“It’s good to see businesses conducting their trading in line with NSW Government restrictions. These restriction eased earlier in the month and we want to continue in this positive direction. Please make sure you are compliant with Public Health Orders.”
