Community Urged to Book Boosters

Local community pharmacies have begun administering COVID-19 boosters to the general population. Are you one of the 7.5 million people eligible for a booster now?

Booster vaccinations will be offered from January 4 to everyone over 18 who has had their second dose of the primary COVID-19 vaccination course at least four months earlier, and this timeframe will be reduced to three months by January 31.

This means that if you completed your primary two-dose vaccination course at least four months ago, you are now eligible to receive a booster vaccination, and you can book your appointment today at findapharmacy.com.au

With over 151 million additional doses secured, boosters are freely available to everybody who is fully vaccinated, and with over 90% of Australia already fully vaccinated and more doing so every day, boosters will be available to most within the coming months.

Check your vaccination certificate if you are unsure what date you received your second dose, and the handy chart included below can help you check when you’ll be eligible to receive your booster vaccination.

You can also head to booster.findapharmacy.com.au if you would like to register to receive a reminder when you are eligible, and as soon as you receive your notification you’ll be able to book your appointment at your local community pharmacy.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have provisionally approved both Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 boosters for use in Australia, and either can be used regardless of which vaccine you received for your primary course.

Two doses of COVID-19 vaccines provide very good protection, especially against severe disease. The booster dose will make sure the protection from the first two doses is even stronger and longer lasting, and should help prevent spread of the virus.

Only one booster dose is recommended at this stage. Even if you have had a booster dose, it is very important you continue to practice COVID Safe measures, including good hand washing and cough and sneeze hygiene.
