Dolly Parton Imagination Library Turns the Page on Milestone

Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Cessnock City Library celebrated a very special milestone with 600 families now enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a worldwide literacy program launched in the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA) in January 2022.

At Rhymetime this week, special guests attended to mark the occasion. Also present were participants in the program who came along to meet some of the people who have helped to bring the Dolly Parton Imagination Library into the homes of so many local families.

Attendees included Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal, Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Community Health Nurse Manager Glenda Entwistle and Dolly Parton Imagination Library’s Leo Krikmann and Kylie Collins.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program delivers a free book each month, for five years, to babies born on or after January 2022.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal said he was thrilled with the success of the program in its first year in the Cessnock LGA.

“I am proud that Council supports a program like this and I know it will have a positive impact on the 600 families who have joined so far,” Mayor Suvaal said.

“Reading brings so much joy to my children, and I am glad to see a program be implemented that gives children across our region the opportunity to immerse themselves in the joys of reading.”

Library services Co-ordinator, Rose-marie Walters said, “We are thrilled to have been part of the delivery of such a wonderful program and it is not too late for others to join. Just call in at one of our branches and complete an application form.”

Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries support literacy within our community by running free Rhymetime and Storytime sessions each week, and all are welcome.
