Spot ‘Joe Rider’ across the Hunter Region this October and win!

As part of Motorcycle Awareness Month, motorists are invited to spot ‘Joe Rider’ from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October 2020 and report their sightings for the chance to win.

Hunter Councils including Cessnock, Maitland, MidCoast, Muswellbrook, Port Stephens, Singleton and Upper Hunter have joined forces as part of Motorcycle Awareness Month to promote rider safety.

Cessnock City Mayor, Cr Bob Pynsent said the Joe Rider campaign aims to develop new habits by encouraging drivers to consistently look out for motorcyclists.

“Motorcyclists are more exposed than any other vehicles on our roads. This October we can all play our part when driving by being aware, develop new consistent habits of checking our mirrors and blind spots for riders together with being more cautious at intersections.”

“It’s all part of our aim to promote rider safety, reduce the incidences of sorry mate I didn’t see you (SMIDSY) crashes and make riders more visible on our roads.”

“Motorists should especially keep an eye out for our riders wearing the ‘I am Joe Rider’ vest and when they reach their destination report sightings for the chance to win a $50 voucher each day from Monday 19 to Friday 23 of October with all entries going into a grand prize weekly draw of a $250 voucher for each Council area. By helping spot ‘Joe Rider’, you’re helping motorcyclists Ride to Live.”

Local motorcycle riders will be kicking off the inaugural Hunter Region Joe Rider campaign with a ride from Port Stephens Council commencing at 8.30am and travel through Maitland and Cessnock on Saturday 17 October.

For the chance to win, Spot Joe Rider from Monday 19 October and register the sighting here by 5.00pm Friday 23 October 2020. More information can be found on each participating councils website.

Riders will depart from Port Stephens Council at 8.30am Saturday 17 October 2020 riding through Heatherbrae to New England Highway and on to Maitland Visitor Information Centre High St Maitland for 9.00am pick up of additional riders and short rest break.

The ride will continue from 9.20am along High Street Maitland through The Levee then to Cessnock Road continuing through Gillieston Heights, Cliftliegh, Heddon Greta, Lang Street Kurri Kurri, on through Weston with a second stop at Chinaman’s Hollow/Maybury Peace Park approximately 9.40am before continuing to Cessnock along Vincent Street and finishing at Cessnock City Council Administration Carpark off Cumberland Street where the campaign will be officially launched.
