Roche Estate's newest tenant opened its doors this month, and Lucia is exactly the kind of place the Hunter Valley needed: a stone-fired kitchen built for long lunches and a bar perfect for lingering over drinks.
Head Chef Jack Zideluns, fresh from London's Savoy Grill, is cooking the food of his own family table, think burrata with romesco, pizzas topped with prosciutto and fig, and handmade pasta finished with pistachio and stracciatella, all designed to land in the middle of the table and get passed around. Wine professional John Samway runs the drinks list, pairing estate wines and cocktails like the Amalfi Sour with a room built for settling in, no rush to order, no rush to leave.
