Bon Appetite! at GIGI & CHIX

If you love the idea of watching the world go by in a Parisian café, nibbling on treats that only the French can create, then you need to visit the authentically French patisserie, Gigi & Chix BonBon at Hunter Valley Gardens Shopping Village, where the flavour and experience are most definitely European.

Owner and Pastry-Creator extraordinaire Angela Joy Mason and her two young daughters, Gigi (four) and Chix (seven), spent some time living in Bordeaux, France, where a local patisserie inspired her with an open kitchen.

"The girls and I felt at home in France and I was inspired by watching and talking to the pâtissiers. I wanted to share our experience and the emotions we felt by creating an amazing space reminiscent of Bordeaux, so launched Gigi & Chix BonBon," said Angela Joy.

And now, the popular patisserie has expanded its offering by creating a new, additional space next door. It's a delightful addition that can seat up to 60 diners (across both venues), allows for group bookings and has been designed to invoke similar emotions in a different way. Angela Joy says the original space is a reflection of her, while the new ‘pink’ area reflects her daughters.

"The expansion has also allowed us to offer a brunch menu that is typical of European dining with light meals, salads, baguettes, waffles, Scandinavian ice creams, a selection of local boutique wines alongside wines imported from France and Italy, cheese boards, Kids High Tea (for 4–12-year-olds) and hand-made chocolates," said Angela Joy.

This, of course, is in addition to the stunning range of cakes, tarts, eclairs, pastries and savouries already on offer.

"The one thing we want our customers to know is that they can always count on us leaving everything on the table, that they will have a wonderful experience invoking all of the senses when they choose to dine with us," she said.

Passionate about food and expressing her love of life through sharing her culinary creations, Angela Joy has been cooking from a young age and credits her mother for allowing her ultimate freedom in the kitchen.

The expansion has also meant that a range of other experiences are now available, inspired by Angela Joy's own gorgeous girls. Activities like kids cookie making and decorating classes and kids chocolate making classes – both of which sound like excellent school holiday treats!
