Col Brown Rotary Park officially renamed

It was a special morning in Kurri Kurri yesterday with representatives from Cessnock City Council, family members of Col Brown and members of Kurri Kurri Rotary Club gathered together to recognise a valued community member, sorely missed by those that knew him.

The park located in the heart of Kurri Kurri will now be known as Col Brown Rotary Park. Council applied for the official name change to recognise the significant contribution of local resident Col Brown, who passed away in 2016.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said it was an honour to officially rename the park in honour of a wonderful man who did so much for so many.

“As a member of Kurri Kurri Rotary Club for over 42 years, Col’s contribution in building a stronger community is significant. His personal commitment to helping others was outstanding, whether it be sorting the power problems for the Nostalgia Festival or being the face for Relay for Life.”

“Col was an inspiration to others and his memory lives on with the renaming of this park.”

Mayor Pynsent was joined by Evelyn Brown, the wife of the late Mr Brown, to unveil the plaque that has been installed to acknowledge the renaming of the open space.
