Meet the Maker - O'Neills Mobile Coffee Group

Who doesn’t love wandering around an amazing local market (like Handmade in the Hunter Markets), browsing fabulous creations with a deliciously warm coffee in your hands on a Winters day?

This month we caught up with the crew at O’Neills Mobile Coffee Group (OMCG) to find out what sets their coffee (and everything else) apart from the rest.

Let’s start with the coffee….

Coffee is not as simple as many think. We’re passionate coffee lovers ourselves – so we follow a recipe every time we make a coffee. This way, we know we are getting a consistent, full-bodied flavour every time. We want to provide the best service, with a smile, of course, to our amazing community. Not to mention, our beans are ethically sourced from South America but roasted locally by the best in the business, Glitch Coffee Roasters.

What other beverages and food do you serve up at Handmade in the Hunter Markets?

The variety of delicious food and drink we serve up even surprises us sometimes! We started out as a plain old coffee truck, but now we do everything from our Signature Cake Range, including Nanna Liz’s carrot cake – a family recipe that has lasted through generations and banana bread, we struggle to keep up with the demand! We’ve also got soft tacos and nachos, loaded fries and gourmet breakfast menus on the food front… and that is to name a few! As for drinks, we always like to innovate in that area; we have our Iced Drink Range, including our famous iced crusha, slushies, smoothies and milkshakes, and so much more! We love to constantly challenge ourselves, bringing new and exciting treats and drinks to our customers – all to put a smile on their face!

Tell us about your (really cool) OMCG personalised keep cups?

Our OMCG Personalised Keep-Cups are another one of the many projects that we are super proud of! Just another way for our mobile café to provide even more to our locals! They’re a fantastic gift idea for a coffee-obsessed partner or friend, or maybe even a co-worker or employee who needs their morning coffee pick me up to get the job done. With their name and their personalised order on the keep-cup, it makes it easy for those early morning orders when you don’t feel like talking before your morning coffee! We recently catered for a wedding and gifted the bride and groom their own personalised keep-cups for that personal touch on their special day. We love doing little projects like this to keep building our community and our identity as people’s favourite small business. We are even working on OMCG Supporter T-Shirts and many other exciting projects coming up!

What do you like most about the Handmade in the Hunter Markets? How do you work with event organisers to encourage attendees?

We find Handmade in the Hunter like going to a family reunion. All local, small business owners that pour their heart and soul into everything they do, and of course we all love to support one another wherever we can – it is where we source a lot of our products for our food menus; home-made jams and spreads from Casbars Kitchen, Hot Chilli Woman with her beautiful chilli sauces, our local honey makers, Largs Honey & Beelish. We even source some of our coffee equipment like our signature tamps from Jan and Anna at Beenatree Creations. When lunchtime hits, Jean from The Crafty Pit is always on hand to take everyone’s orders and whip up a delicious lunch for everyone!

You’ll find Handmade in the Hunter Markets in the gardens of Sobels Wines in Pokolbin – 19 and 26 June, followed by markets on 3 and 4, 10 and 17 July.
