Discover Ethereal Worlds and Culinary Delights at Morpeth's Festival of Two Palettes!

It’s time to make your way to the beautiful and historic town of Morpeth for the annual Festival of Two Palettes, a weekend of art and gourmet food. This year’s festival will be held over the weekend of 9 + 10 March at Morpeth Gallery

Over the weekend, 14 artists will be in residence. Watch them paint at their easels, discuss their plans for the year and fall in love with your next painting. You will have the opportunity to win an original painting donated by most artists when you make a purchase (original, print or art gift) during the exhibition

One of the artists in residence over the weekend is the legendary Grand Master Artist John McCartin. John has mastered the art of capturing the splendour of the natural world in which we live and was judged the best in the World for landscape painting in 2023 (he has also just won another award in 2024 in Spain, taking his tally to 115 awards).

The way he interprets the world that surrounds us, particularly when it comes to portraying the astounding beauty of nature, possesses an allure that cannot be denied and is intriguing. Using brushstrokes, pencil strokes, and charcoal drawings, John can transport you to ethereal worlds that appear to exist beyond the limits of your imagination.

John can take you to faraway, breathtaking locales without requiring you to leave the safety and convenience of your home. It is a medium that captures the astonishing splendour of our natural world, from undulating hills and towering mountains to placid lakes, verdant woods, and thriving vistas. John’s practice of landscape painting has an entrancing quality that can stir your spirits, and John is one of those painters whose work can completely take your breath away.

Once one palette has been satisfied – it’s time for the other, and gourmet food lovers can tantalise their taste buds with tastings of gourmet foods, fudge, cordial, nuts and honey at Morpeth Gourmet Foods on the ground floor of Morpeth Gallery.
