Maitland’s Visitor Information Service will relocate to Maitland Regional Art Gallery from Friday, 1 May 2026.

The move follows a comprehensive review of Visitor Information Services including engagement that received 1028 submissions, with the responses showing strong support for the continuation of a face-to-face offering.

The Central Park Café, RV parking, RV dump point and facilities will remain operational at the site on the corner of the New England Highway and High Street.

A report on the future use of what is currently known as the Visitor Information Centre building will be presented to Council at April’s meeting.

Maitland City Council’s Director City Planning, Trevor Ryan says “in-person visitor numbers to the current Visitor Information Centre are not at a level to warrant a standalone service, and this presents an opportunity to integrate a touchpoint into Maitland Regional Art Gallery for visitors and residents who want more information about what Maitland has to offer.”

Maitland Regional Art Gallery is a significant cultural attraction in the city and the location will provide a more accessible face-to-face experience for visitors as well as new and existing residents, with its close proximity to key locations in Central Maitland and major event sites such as Steamfest.

“We’re also seeing an increasing trend towards customers accessing information online, with visits to the My Maitland website now exceeding 350,000 annually.

“The website, as well as social media, is a great resource for those keen to learn more about everything happening in Maitland, from a what’s on calendar to entertainment and accommodation options, local business listings and a trip planner for those who want to tailor their time in Maitland according to their interests, length of stay and budget,” said Mr Ryan.
