The Hunter Valley isn't just famous for wine—it's a thriving creative hub where artists draw inspiration from rolling vineyards, rugged bushland, and sweeping skies. The region's galleries capture this rich cultural pulse, offering everything from time-honoured techniques to bold contemporary statements.
One standout is Watershed Gallery in Pokolbin, a vibrant showcase of fine contemporary art. Its striking collection spans paintings, sculpture, and mixed media, reflecting the valley's dramatic landscapes through modern, imaginative lenses—an essential stop for art lovers exploring the area.
Over in Broke Fordwich, Winmark Gallery delivers a beautifully curated mix of emerging talents and respected Australian artists. With rotating displays of painting, photography, and sculpture, the intimate setting invites visitors to slow down and connect with each piece, making it a favourite for collectors and curious wanderers alike.
In Cessnock, PACC's Art Gallery champions creativity, diversity, and fresh ideas through an annual program that showcases vibrant contemporary works by local and national artists. The retail space features unique pieces crafted by regional makers. Currently on show until 31 January is Ahead of the Curve: Australian Modern Quilts, an exhibition celebrating contemporary quilting that pushes the boundaries of form and technique, with the curve as both creative challenge and source of inspiration.
