Memories of Maitland Hospital on Show At New Gallery Exhibition

To celebrate the past 170 years of the Maitland Hospital, and it’s future transition to the new developed site in Metford, Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) will be presenting the exhibition, A Conspicuous Object: The Maitland Hospital, to acknowledge the vital role the hospital has played.

The Hunter New England Local Health District and NSW Health Infrastructure supported initiative includes a website that will feature a growing range of memories and stories from the Maitland Hospital.

Through words and pictures, these local stories will invite audiences to engage with diverse aspects of the hospital's past and present. The community is invited to share their memories and stories about people, places, objects, and events to have published on the website. Stories, photographs and memorabilia shared will be included in the exhibition, which will open from August 2021 to February 2022.

MRAG Director Gerry Bobsien says, ‘Maitland Hospital has serviced the community for generations. In that time, many stories and memories have been created that are being showcased through various artworks.

‘We’re encouraging members of the community to share their experiences of Maitland Hospital and learn from others through these engaging works. Visit the website, browse the stories and artworks, and share your memories.’
